About Handball Fitness Coach

The vision for Handball Fitness Coach and Handball Fitness Training is the education of all handball players out there, about the best methods of strength and conditioning and athletic development, to best prepare for the physical demands of handball (including developing a resilient body that is resistant to injury.)

For whatever reason, despite having in excess of 30 million players worldwide, research and readily available information on strength and conditioning for handball is very sparse. Additionally, the small amounts of research that filter out and can be found online have absolutely 0 practical use to the everyday handball player looking for actual guidance with training. Additionally, the trickle of non-academic information that is available out there are merely little snippets (an exercise here or a titbit of information there.) It is like having an incomplete road map. Certainly there is nothing out there that covers detailed and usable information on what is required in handball and how and why to train in a certain way for handball, as well as specific exercises, combined importantly with adaptable programming.

The confusion and lack of understanding abounds amongst the majority of handball players with how exactly to go about strength training specifically for handball, and how exactly this should fit in with club training and match day, in order to bring about genuine physical improvement. The result is usually to either do nothing, or to just do the standard bodybuilding style training that 99% of the guys at the gym are doing. This is a big problem, because this certainly isn't the way to approach strength training when improvement in physical performance on the handball court is your primary goal.

So at Handball Fitness Training, our aim is to bring you the key information and direction you need via a combination of 3 key components:

Component 1: Understanding the key principles of what exactly is 'functional' for handball, based around in-depth analysis of the needs and requirements in a game of handball.

Component 2: Knowing the key strength and power exercises - as well as progressions - to perform in order to improve the key movements and abilities required in handball.

Component 3: Understanding how exactly to program these exercises, in terms of sets, reps and rest, (taking goals, team roles, and team commitments into consideration) and most importantly how to periodise them over the space of a season and then how to progress them accordingly.

We do these things by providing the information that takes the cutting edge of exercise science available, and make it both relevant and usable to the everyday handball player at whatever level, but also easy to understand and realistic to follow.

We continue to update the free information in the articles section, and often do so based on questions that get sent through via email or posted on the Facebook page. Additionally it is in Strength & Power Training for Handball as well as Agility, Speed & Conditioning for Handball, that these topics that we cover are outlined in much more detail, as well as combining the 3 components that we outlined, in one complete, thorough and instantly usable programming approach.

So check the ebooks/videos out, and in the mean time, delve into the articles section and send through/post on Facebook any questions you have.
